Clara Toksvig's practice insists on interconnectedness, that we are all part of the cyclical of the earths movement and connected in an endless cycle. Through her work, she seeks to explore how our cultural symbols and interpretations are deeply rooted in nature. By delving into how various symbols evolve across time and diverse contexts, she seeks to explore their role in shaping our collective cultural identity.
Toksvig works with ceramics and clay as her medium. Through her sculptures, Toksvig aspires to awaken a sense of motion within a material that is conventionally considered static, exploring the dynamic potential of clay. She is fascinated with clay's ability to transform; the responsive and perishable clay that can be transformed into a ceramic sculpture that moves towards the imperishable.
